The Leningrad Region, due to its cool, humid climate and a large number of forests, is one of the best places for "quiet hunting". Mushrooms of the Vsevolozhsk region delight mushroom pickers with their abundance.
Mushrooms of Vsevolozhsky district
What mushrooms grow
The following representatives of the mushroom kingdom grow in these places:
- chanterelles;
- russula;
- red mushrooms;
- boletus;
- boletus;
- black milk mushrooms;
- aspen mushrooms;
- boron moss;
- mushrooms;
- oyster mushrooms;
- goats;
- porcini mushrooms (few).
But not all of them are useful. Every season, dozens of people end up in intensive care due to mushroom poisoning. In the Vsevolozhsk region, among the dangerous mushrooms, you can find:
- fly agaric;
- lines (outwardly similar to morels);
- mushrooms turning yellow (if you squeeze the cap, its color changes, it becomes bright yellow).
If in doubt about the edibility of a mushroom, go by it. Surely there are less suspicious and completely safe representatives of this kingdom nearby.
Tips for mushroom pickers
The first thing that comes to mind for an inexperienced mushroom picker is to look for information on the Internet or ask the local population. Both options are acceptable, just remember that not everyone willingly gives away the cherished places rich in mushrooms.
Tips to help you find:
- You shouldn't look in dry grass.
- An older tree means more fungi (a more developed root system and a well-developed mycorrhiza that has already been formed for a long time).
- The forest is full of wild animals - it's better not to go there. Mushrooms are located on forest edges, in clearings where felling took place, as well as near swamps.
Irina Selyutina (Biologist):
When picking mushrooms, remember:
- It is better for an inexperienced mushroom picker not to do this alone. When you go in a company with someone, the likelihood of losing each other is significantly reduced, but finding a way out increases.
- When entering the forest, be sure to pay attention to where the sun is: if it was behind your back, then you need to go out so that it shines in your eyes.
- Noise on the road can also be the main reference point.
- It is best to look for butterflies in young pine forests.
- Porcini mushrooms love mature, spruce or pine forests.
- Honey mushrooms are found where there are dead trees (mainly deciduous trees).
- Ryzhiks simply adore young plantings of fir and pine trees.
- Obstetrics prefer light, mature forests.
And never forget: If summer or autumn turned out to be dry, you should not immediately go for mushrooms as soon as they appeared after the first rains: it is highly likely that the vegetative body of the fungus (mycelium) has absorbed toxic compounds that have got into the soil with rainwater. Wait for the next rain.
Famous places
The area is rich in mushroom places
- village Agalatovo: small, beautiful and cozy, about 2000 houses. It stands on the banks of the Okhta River. There is a highway nearby. The railway station is 18 km away. There are many mushrooms. Honey mushrooms can be collected even on the street, along the road.
- microdistrict "Berngradovka": is located in Vsevolozhsk. Next to it is Lake Ladoga. It's easy to get there. Both electric trains and buses go to the designated place. There are many mushrooms there, the locals are constantly gathering whole baskets, harvesting crops for the winter and profitably selling part of the harvest.
- village of Melnichny brook: located in the suburb of Vsevolozhsk. There is incredibly beautiful nature. Just in order to admire the local flavor, it is worth going there. There are many mushrooms, but still not like in Berngradovka.
- village Novoye Devyatkino: located along the highway. The Okhta River flows nearby. Due to the convenient transport interchange, it is popular among mushroom pickers. And there are more than enough mushroom fields. Even local residents hold contests in the area - who will pick the most.
- village named after Morozov: located on the right bank of the Niva. The village can be reached by rail and by car. There are many different mushrooms. This year, honey mushrooms were especially born.
For convenience, a special map has been created, where the places rich in hats are indicated.
Where to collect
Despite the favorable ecological situation in the region, one must not forget that Mushrooms absorb all harmful substances from the environment. No wonder they are usually compared to sponges. To avoid poisoning, do not choose the following places for "quiet hunting":
- Along the highway, motorway.
- Plots in the industrial area.
- Glades not far from landfills, garbage cans.
Also refrain from buying mushrooms, which are "helpfully" sold along the highway.

Useful Tips
- The sooner you get up, you will collect more. Therefore, go out on a mushroom "hunt" no later than 5-6 am.
- Stock up on drinking water, a compass. Just in case, charge your phone. Take a map or navigator with you, use them to mark the found mushroom "deposits".
- A basket is better than buckets. Much more nutrients are stored in it. Baskets made from natural vines are expensive, because they have the possibility of constant air circulation due to the gaps between the intertwined branches, which allows the mushroom to maintain its freshness, and therefore useful substances.
- Do not destroy the found specimen. Try to carefully cut or twist the mushrooms out of the soil. If it is possible not to damage the mycelium, there will be a harvest again in a year.
Mushrooms are very healthy. Someone will say why waste time when you can buy. But "quiet hunting" is, first of all, a hobby, a way to take a break from the daily hustle and bustle and enjoy nature. Vsevolozhsk is rich in mushrooms, fabulously beautiful places and sincere people. For this, mushroom pickers and just tourists love him so much.
